Community Involvement

Brookfield is an active contributor in the communities where we operate. Together with our affiliates and our employees, we help a wide variety of non-profit organizations through leadership, volunteer activity and financial contributions. Our employees participate in a wide variety of community activities and fund-raising events throughout the year and our senior executives have taken on leadership positions on the boards and capital campaigns of a number of major charities and public institutions.

The corporate philanthropic activities of Brookfield and most of our affiliates are coordinated through The Brookfield Foundation. The Foundation is focused primarily on providing matching grants to recognize the leadership, volunteer and financial contributions of our employees and officers in three main areas of giving: education, health and community services. Together, the Foundation, our employees and officers of our participating companies donate approximately $4 million annually.

Brookfield’s affiliates also provide direct support to a wide number of local and community initiatives and have developed a number of focused programs related to their areas of business. For example, Royal LePage Shelter Foundation was established by Royal LePage Residential Services and its employees and agents to support women’s shelter organizations and annually donates approximately $400,000. Brookfield Power's Sustainable Development Initiative invests $1 million per year to support multi-stakeholder projects in the communities in which it has power operations.
