Inside Origin Energy’s $18.7b private capital job
Former Bank of England governor Mark Carney explains why he wants to own Australia’s biggest electricity retailer, and what he plans to do with it.
Origin Energy, which supplies electricity and gas to 4.5 million customers, is the latest, big Australian-listed company to head towards private capital hands.
The business, spun-out of cement maker Boral in 2000, has almost 140,000 shareholders, mostly Australians, and is soon to be bought out by a couple of big financial players from the other side of the world.
