In 2015, Brookfield formed a consortium with its institutional partners to acquire 100% of TDF, a leading independent communication infrastructure operator in France. Given the increasing demand for mobile data and the investment need for mobile operators to improve their network quality, the portfolio offered strong growth potential.
In 2020, Brookfield expanded its communications infrastructure platform by leveraging our operational expertise in telecom infrastructure to build out Altius, the portfolio of over 250,000 communication towers in India—one of the largest and fastest-growing markets in the world, with macroeconomic and demographic tailwinds driving demand.
Brookfield also invested in GD Towers, a scaled platform of over 43,000 telecom sites in Germany and Austria, in 2023. GD Towers provides nationwide coverage in both markets, with Deutsche Telekom, the largest telecom operator in Europe, as its main customer. We see potential for organic growth driven by 5G and edge computing, which necessitates greater network densification.
