In early 2024, Brookfield acquired a portfolio of approximately 2,100 multifamily apartments in San Francisco, making us one of the city’s largest residential landlords.

When others were withdrawing from the Bay Area, we took a contrarian approach and took advantage of a unique opportunity to own a portfolio of scale. Steps from Waikiki Beach, Ala Moana Center is the world’s largest outdoor shopping center, featuring a mix of national retailers, local favorites, and luxury brands including Hawaii’s only Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, and Bloomingdale’s. With over 310 retail and dining options, the property also offers experiences from a multimillion-dollar art collection to live music, hula performances, and family attractions.

Active management ensures Ala Moana remains the primary shopping, dining, and leisure destination for locals and visitors, while delivering enduring value as a flagship retail asset.

Since acquiring Selenta Hospitality Group in 2021—including four hotels with over 2,200 keys—we have worked alongside the management team to reposition the platform through targeted investment and operational upgrades.

The estate has grown to six assets and nearly 3,000 keys, with improvements enhancing both guest experience and asset performance. A notable example is the Mare Nostrum Resort in Tenerife, fully renovated and later sold in the largest single asset hospitality transaction in Spain, underscoring our ability to realize value from high-quality assets in leading markets.
