Waterside Plaza is a 1,471-unit rental apartment complex in Manhattan, located on the East River waterfront between 25th and 28th Streets. The thriving residential community includes open space, commercial space, a parking garage and the British International School. Brookfield entered into an agreement with Waterside’s developer and previous owner in 2018, assuming full ownership and management of the complex in 2021. Waterside Plaza continues to be a highly sought-after rental community, and today Brookfield is investing meaningful capital to upgrade and modernize the property to secure its future.
Revitalizing the World Financial Center for a New Era
This major redevelopment transformed the former World Financial Center into a vibrant, multipurpose destination that attracts businesses, tourists and locals alike. Once home to primarily financial tenants, the 8 million-square-foot property now has a diverse tenant base including luxury retailers and restaurants.

Europe’s Largest Urban Regeneration Project
In 2015, we formed a joint venture with QIA to acquire Canary Wharf Group plc for approximately £2.6 billion. Canary Wharf Group led the largest urban regeneration project in Europe and develops, manages and owns interests in approximately 9 million square feet of mixed-use space, and over 1,100 bu8ild-to-rent apartments and more than 800 apartments for sale. Through this transaction, we have joint control of 11 office buildings spanning approximately 7 million square feet, over 800,000 square feet of retail, and an active office and residential development pipeline of over 3 million square feet. We have been working alongside the company and our partners as Canary Wharf has evolved into a 24/7 live, work, play destination with the recent opening of the Elizabeth Line as a significant catalyst for further growth.

We are investing €100 million to renovate and reposition the 3 million-square-foot estate as an attractive location for office, retail and residential tenants. Our broad, long-term relationships with many multinational tenants provide a key competitive advantage.
Transforming GGP’s U.S. Mall Portfolio
In 2010, we led the restructuring and recapitalization of GGP, guiding the company through its emergence from the largest bankruptcy in North American real estate history and serving as the cornerstone investor in its $30 billion restructuring. In 2018, we completed the $15 billion acquisition of the company.
