The (New) New Macro

Minute Read

At our annual Private Funds Investor Conference, Chair of Brookfield Asset Management and Head of Transition Investing Mark Carney shared his outlook for the global economy.

Leveraging his experience as the former Governor of the Bank of England and the Bank of Canada, Mark explained the new drivers, new policies and new dynamics that are coming together to shape markets and opportunities around the world.

Mark explored the “hinge moment” that we are living through today: a shift away from globalization, free trade and efficiency toward the dominance of security in economic policy. He also highlighted the “Three Ds”—decarbonization, deglobalization and digitalization—that will drive the macro economy, the monetary and fiscal policy response and the investment opportunities ahead.
