We are one of the world's largest investors in renewable power, with approximately 21,000 megawatts of generating capacity. Our assets, located in North and South America, Europe, India and China, comprise a diverse technology base of hydro, wind, utility-scale solar, distributed generation, storage and other renewable technologies.
We utilize our fully integrated global operating platform and in-house expertise to maintain facilities, organically add value and efficiently integrate new assets, realizing cost synergies in the process. Our business is underpinned by stable cash flows, with the majority of our power contracted under long-term, inflation-linked contracts.
Renewable power for a cleaner, brighter tomorrow
The acquisition of the TerraForm companies strengthened Brookfield’s position as a global leader in renewable power, adding significant wind and solar assets as well as operating platforms in India and China.
Our hydro power assets are characterized by a perpetual asset life, high cash margins, and storage capacity.
Isagen — In 2016, we acquired Colombia’s third-largest power generation portfolio, based primarily on hydro and accounting for roughly 20% of the country’s generation, with 3,000 megawatts of capacity. This investment was possible because of our ability to be patient over a lengthy sale process, along with our underwriting capabilities and hydro expertise.
Holtwood — In 2016, we acquired this portfolio of two hydro stations in Pennsylvania with 296 megawatts of installed capacity, enough to power more than 100,000 homes annually. Holtwood benefits from synergies with our Safe Harbor facility, as well as from a diverse revenue stream, long-term operating licenses and a favorable market facing significant coal retirements.

TerraForm Global — In 2017 we acquired TerraForm Global, a globally diversified, 952-megawatt wind and solar portfolio located in key growth markets. Through this transaction we expanded our wind presence in Brazil and established a foothold in India's and China’s attractive, high-growth renewables markets.
Irish Wind Transaction — In 2014 we acquired an onshore wind portfolio consisting of operating and development assets. We doubled the operating capacity to 700 megawatts, established a 1-gigawatt development pipeline, and built a fully integrated platform in the region with corporate contracting, operating and growth capabilities. The assets were sold in 2021 to a strategic buyer generating 15%+ return over an 8-year hold.

One of the fastest-growing sources of renewable energy, utility-scale solar offers high cash margins and diverse and scalable applications.
TerraForm Power — In 2017, we acquired a 51% interest in TerraForm Power, a publicly traded renewable power company with a large-scale and diversified portfolio contracted wind, solar and distributed generation located predominantly in the United States. In 2020, we acquired the remaining interest in TerraForm Power that we and our affiliates did not already own and privatized the company. Its high-quality assets have a long, useful life remaining, and its cash flows are underpinned by long-term contracts with creditworthy off-takers.

Our Energy Transition business includes our distributed generation and pumped storage assets.
Our commercial and industrial distributed-solar generation portfolio offers consumers access to power at the point of consumption.
Our pumped hydro facilities in the U.S. and U.K. help to stabilize the electrical grid.
Distributed Generation — We own and operate a fast-growing commercial and industrial distributed solar generation business in North America. This portfolio includes a 4.5-megawatt distributed solar generation project at a Californian high school that utilizes both rooftop and parking canopy shade systems to make full use of the available area in order to locally generate solar power.
Jack Cockwell — The 600-megawatt Jack Cockwell hydroelectric storage generating station on the Deerfield River in northern Massachusetts is one of only two of its kind in New England. The facility sells energy and capacity into wholesale markets and plays an important role in providing flexibility and stability to the electrical grid.
