John Payne is a Managing Director and leads Brookfield’s Global Defined Contribution (DC) strategy and business. In this role, he partners with clients and industry providers to bring private market strategies to DC and to enhance retirement income solutions.

Prior to joining Brookfield in 2025, Mr. Payne was a senior leader within Goldman Sachs' dedicated DC retirement group. He has held multiple leadership roles across institutional investment management, including private real estate, discretionary managed accounts, and custom target date funds, with a focus on innovation to improve participant outcomes.

Mr. Payne holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business at Babson College and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hamilton College, and is Series 7 registered. He is a two-term Executive Board member at Defined Contribution Institutional Investment Association (DCIIA), was Co-President of the Defined Contribution Real Estate Council (DCREC) and is a member of Defined Contribution Alternatives Association (DCALTA).
